It's All About The Journey

" The road of life twists and turns and no two directions are ever the same. Yet our lessons come from the journey, not the destination. " Don Williams Jr.

One thing that I hold very close to me is that life is full of lessons. Yes, I know, it isn't anything new and utterly amazing, but when you think about it, each moment is valuable and thought provoking. It doesn't matter the time, place or situation, you can always learn from that experience; and I truly believe that you were put there to learn a specific lesson. Sometimes we will end up experiencing the same type of situation over again until we get that "aha!" moment and then, (have you ever noticed?) it disappears and you move on to something else,

Reflection can be an amazing tool. Allowing yourself to sit and reflect about different things in your life allows you to come up with a lot of insight into what is going on, what has gone wrong, what can be done to change the situation for the better, and what direction you need to move towards. This is all part of the journey.

How you express these situations is also part of the journey and the options are endless. You can verbally express them (my hope would be in a positive nature) through gentle discussions with others or singing. You can also use writing as a source of expression by journaling, poetry, articles, or writing stories. Many people also use art in various mediums including; clay, collage, scrapbooking, metal, or glass work.

It really isn't about getting from point A to point B but what lies in between that counts. It is the journey that develops us, creates the better part of us, releases the demons in us and points us in the direction we need to be continuing in. What is your lesson today and how will you choose to express your journey?

I like the journey image and agree with the "look around" point of view.

I definitely agree with you. I heard of Jorge Bucay, an psychiatric expert from Argentina, that happiness is not about something you get to find, it is all about the journey. If your expectations are too high and your results too low, frustration comes along, what brings real happiness is to know the course and enjoy walking on its direction.

Yes, far too often expectations set us up.  If we just let go of them...things would be better. Live in the moment!

You are so right! And have you noticed that sometimes reaching the goal is much less exciting than the trip that got you there?

I spend a lot of time fasting and praying but art can also be a great way to find peace.

It's a start in the right direction.  Learning a life journey I think makes us stronger and better people.  If we learn from what is in front of us we become more capable of making our lives better quality...  THANKS! C

I love this, Lynnette! I have tried almost my entire life to live life like it was a journey, but I keep on livin' like it's all about destinations. I'd love to read more of your thoughts on this.

Lynette,
I enjoyed this article a great deal. You bring up some very good points.  The fulfillment  is in the journey, that is if one is not in such a hurry to get from point A to point B. For us to enjoy the journey however, we have to have the right attitude about what we experience from day to day. Thank you, great article!
